Jake McCaig

Jake joined The Skating Lab Toronto team in March of 2017. Jake grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where he worked alongside Fred Perlini (Toronto Maple Leafs) coordinating summer hockey camps for all ages, including junior and pro’s. He has worked closely with Brendan Perlini of the Arizona Coyotes during this time. He has previously worked in the OHL as a strength and conditioning assistant with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds before moving to Toronto for other opportunities within hockey. He is a Kinesiology graduate from Lake Superior State University where he trained with the LSSU Lakers Division 1 hockey team. His favourite NHL team is the Toronto Maple Leafs.


Niki (Nicole) Best, R.Kin

Niki joined The Skating Lab Toronto team in September of 2016. Niki is a Registered Kinesiologist, who graduated Summa-Cum Laude with a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at York University. Continuing, she successfully completed her Ontario Graduate Certificate in Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management at Humber College.

Niki has competed at the representative/competitive level in hockey, soccer, dance, and horseback riding.

Along with working as a trainer at The Skating Lab Toronto, Niki works in a multidisciplinary clinic, as a Kinesiologist; working with Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, and Registered Massage Therapists.


Louis Sawyer

Louis grew up in Montreal, Quebec where he played minor hockey.  Louis played junior ‘A’ hockey in La Ronge, Saskatchewan and in Fort Mcmurray, Alberta. From there, Louis was recruited to play for the York University Lions.  Louis is currently in the process of studying at York University for a degree in Kinesiology.  His favourite NHL team is the Montreal Canadiens.


Shawn Giles

Shawn is an operations and repair specialist, writing technical manuals and collaborating with our other trainers to produce standardized training materials/programs. With his Kinesiology background from York University, over fifteen years of hockey retail experience, as well as being an equipment manager (CIS/OUA & OHL), Shawn is a great fit for both the shop and as a substitute trainer for the lab. Shawn is currently with Kunlun RedStar (Men’s U18) and has frequently assisted the ‘sister’ teams; Kunlun RedStar and Vanke Rays of the CWHL when they visit the GTA. Having grown up and played all his minor hockey as a goalie in the MTHL, Shawn is a supporter of his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs.


Sydney Granger

Sydney grew up playing ringette in Dorchester and various cities around South Western Ontario. Sydney is currently playing for the Cambridge Turbos in the National Ringette League. Sydney has represented Canada at the World Junior Ringette Championships in 2012 where they won gold, and the World Ringette Championships in 2015 and 2017, where they finished in second. Sydney completed her BA in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario and is in the process of completing her Doctor of Chiropractic degree at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. Her favourite NHL team is the Calgary Flames.
